DMI – Commando Crawling by Legs

Initial Position: Child lies prone with legs on the table along the length of the table, feet towards you and head away.

Movement: Bend the left hip and knee placing it down on the table so that the knee is flexed and abducted to the side of the hip. Keep the left knee firmly in place and push straight up through the length of the right leg so that the left leg gradually straightens while you start to flex and abduct the right hip and knee. While flexing the right hip and knee, open or rotate the right trunk slightly so that the right arm has the opportunity to unweight and move forwards. Repeat until the child has crossed the table.

Outcomes: commando crawling, trunk strength, upper body strength and weightbearing
