DMI – High Kneel to Stand by Thighs

Initial Position: Child starts in a high kneeling position with feet towards you.

Movement: Hold the right leg below the knee and bend the child’s right hip and knee up under the child and place the right foot flat on the table. Move your right hand to the child’s right thigh, fingers on top of the thigh and thumb under the thigh, so that the child is in half kneeling. Make sure that you have placed the foot forwards enough so that both hips and knees are at a 90/90 degree angle. Shift the child’s weight forwards onto the front leg giving upwards pressure throughout the posterior left
leg and forwards and upwards pressure through the right knee.

Outcomes: hip strengthening, trunk extension, leg extension, trunk control
