There are 2 ways to execute this maneuver

1. The “T” method used for those first learning the skill, and the “Y” method for those already using this skill. For the “T” method, place the child’s hands straight out to the sides, forming a “T” with their body. Hold the child’s left elbow locked straight with your right hand, fingers spread out and your thumb aligned along the upper arm to the shoulder. Repeat on the other side.

2. For the “Y” method, place the child’s hands adducted close to their head. Slide the child forwards head down off the table. Lock the olecranon with your middle finger, other fingers are curled around the arm below the elbow, your pointer finger aligns up along the front of the
arm.

Movement: Press into the shoulder, lift the child up slightly and slide hands, keeping them in contact with the surface, directly under the shoulders onto the table. Maintain pressure down through the child’s hands. Rock the child forwards ten times over the hands. Wait for the child to flex the hips and knees into a 4 point crawl position.

Outcomes: trunk control, hip strength, bilateral upper body weightbearing, four point kneeling
