DMI – Supine to Sit Legs Around Trunk, 180 Degrees

Initial Position: Child lies supine, perpendicular to your chest,
head away from you and knees bent with feet off the edge of the table.

Hold: Stand in front of the child. Place the child’s legs around your waist. Pelvis against your trunk. Firmly stabilize the legs against you by using your elbows and forearms. Hold the child’s lower trunk with your hands. The child should be firmly held against you.

Movement: Turn child 90 degrees towards the child’s right*, and taking steps backwards away from the table, slide until the head gently leaves the table. Lean back and to your right. Apply pressure with both hands cueing the child to come up towards the sitting position and wait. When the child initiates an active response to sit up move with the child until the child is sitting facing you. Repeat to the
other side.

Outcomes: lateral trunk flexion, hip flexion, trunk control, head righting
