Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) therapy capitalizes on neuroplastic qualities of a child’s brain while recognizing that kids are SO CAPABLE of the unthinkable.
DMI might be for your child if…
- They need an extra boost to push towards that next big motor milestone
- You’ve done years of therapy and not seen as much progress as you believe your child is capable of
- Your child is growing and you need them to sit more independently to take a bath, floor play, etc
- They are labeled a “lazy” baby, but you know in your gut it’s not laziness (for the record, I am in your corner! There is no such thing as a lazy baby)
- They have a neuromuscular condition like cerebral palsy, dystonia, spasticity, global delays
- You are willing to try “out of the box” ideas

Through continuous repetition, DMI works to create new brain pathways to meet motor milestones. I have firsthand witnessed this new found movement do WONDERS for the child’s confidence and functional outcome!
Some functional goals children work toward in Dynamic Movement Intervention
- Independent Sitting for taking a bath safely or floor play
- Reaching for toys
- Overcome fear of falling in standing and transitional movements
- Increasing fine motor control by stabilizing the center of the body (core and trunk)
- Transitioning between different positions (for example: sitting to standing, tummy to sitting, sitting to crawling)
- and more!
DMI is most effective through intensive therapy but can be used in weekly, ongoing sessions.
In intensive therapy, I am working with a child for a short period of time and laser focus on a few goals through Dynamic Movement Intervention exercises. These intensives can last 1-2 hours, 4 days a week for up to three weeks.

Children that Benefit From Dynamic Movement Intervention
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Cerebral palsy
- Stroke
- Hemiparesis
- Traumatic brain injury
- Developmental and global delay
- Congenital or rare disorders
These children often do not reach the preferred level of functional independence in traditional therapy.
Even with years of therapy, a child with the potential to walk could still be confined to a wheelchair.
Therahappy is here to get your child to their next motor milestone, higher independence and soaring confidence! DMI has been a gamechanger personally for me as a therapist, and I can’t imagine treating my patients any other way because the results are unparalleled.
